WBL Tours the National Museum of Health and Medicine

Posted by wblfoundation

A small group of DC based (and several Nashville based) Foundation Associates were lucky to get a private tour of the National Museum of Health and Medicine on the Walter Reed campus in DC.  Although the companies of those attending represented the future of medicine, the group learned about the past—“plagues that changed history”, battlefield surgery (both during the Civil War and now, in Iraq), and the final hours of Abraham Lincoln.  We also saw the first ever heart monitor that began to allow doctors to practice medicine and monitor conditions away from the bedside.  The tour is one of several exciting events WBL is beginning to plan for Foundation Associates in the DC area.  The group was joined by several more for dinner at a restaurant in Silver Spring for more networking opportunities.

WBL was proud to host another BYOCC Dinner in Tel Aviv, Israel on January 18, 2010.  In 2007, WBL took a group on a business mission to Israel, which was a great kickoff for the BYOCC’s.  Three years later, there are now almost 80 Israeli Foundation Associates!  WBL plans to return again with a group in 2011, but in the meantime, we hope to see you at future BYOCC dinners.  Thanks to all who joined us!

WBL Holds Reception in San Francisco

Posted by wblfoundation

On January 13, 2010 the WBL held a very successful reception in San Francisco, attended by more than 25 WBL associates and friends of the Foundation with opportunities to learn more about the mission of WBL and meet other senior executive women in the health care industry.  This reception was set to coincide with the JP Morgan Annual Conference, the industry’s largest, that featured presentations from approximately 300 companies, over four days of simultaneous sessions.  Companies represented at the WBL reception included Prime Therapeutics, Emdeon, GlaxoSmithKline, and J&J.  We were also delighted to have WBL Advisory Board members Ginger Graham and Renee Tannenbaum on hand to tell the group more about WBL.  Thank you to all who joined us and made the evening a success!

For those of you based in San Francisco, please stay tuned for another upcoming Bay area event.  If you frequent the JP Morgan conference and would like to be sure you see notices about next year’s JPM reception, contact Lauren Joyner at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

France Follows Suit?

France is now considering legislation that would require 50% of board seats to be held by women by the year 2015.  See the full article here  They would be joining the ranks of countries like Norway and Spain that already have enforced quotas for female board members.  Are the new SEC disclosure requirements a precusor to this type of legislation in the US?  Let us know what you think via Twitter.
