WBL - Announcement and Here’s to Us 2010-1

We would like to take the opportunity to announce that Adrienne Colburn, Strategic Relations Coordinator at the WBL Foundation, will be leaving WBL to pursue her career in Austin, Texas. Adrienne has been with the Foundation since October 2007. We will miss working with her as we are sure many of you will as well. Adrienne will be staying with WBL until June 2010 to ensure a smooth transition and will remain a resource to WBL and our Foundation Associates for several months. We hope you will join us in wishing Adrienne all the best for a wonderfully successful career, and we hope that those of you in Austin will consider reaching out to her.

HORIZONTAL ADVANCEMENT™

WBL Foundation Associate Donna Cryer, JD, Chief Executive Officer, CryerHealth has been selected for a five year term to serve as a patient representative and consultant to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (http://www.fda.gov) and will serve as a member of the Gastrointestinal Drug Advisory Committee.

WBL Foundation Associate and WBL Advisory Board Member Ginger L. Graham, President and CEO, Two Trees Consulting and Former CEO, Amylin Pharmaceuticals has been elected to the Board of Directors of Walgreen Co.  effective May 1. Ginger becomes the board’s 10th member. Walgreens is the nation’s largest drugstore chain with fiscal 2009 sales of $63 billion.

WBL Foundation Associate and WBL Advisory Board Member Carrie Harrie-Muller, Chief Administrative Officer, Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States Region , recently joined the Healthcare Advisory Board of Pinstripe, Inc., a human resources and recruitment outsourcing company. Carrie was introduced to this opportunity through a WBL board search opportunity. WBL Foundation Associate Jill Schwieters, President, Pinstripe Healthcare used WBL as a resource for finding candidates for this board opportunity.

WBL Foundation Associate Joan Herman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Herman and Associates, LLC has been appointed as Chair of the Board for MRV Communications, Inc. . MRV Communications, Inc. (“MRV”) is a provider of network equipment and services, and optical components. Joan previously was the President and CEO of WellPoint’s Consumer Business Unit.

AWARDS & RECOGNITIONS

WBL Foundation Associate Deborah Daccord, Board Member, Fenway Community Health was named to Nightingale’s Healthcare News 2009 list of Outstanding Healthcare Transaction Lawyers. Deborah is a Health Care Practice Member and Equity Member at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C.

WBL Foundation Associate Pamela Greenberg, President and CEO, Association for Behavioral Health and Wellness has been recognized by the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare with the 2010 Award of Excellence for Public Service. Pamela was honored for her work over more than a decade to bring about mental health parity.

WBL Foundation Associate Julia Kahr, Principal, The Blackstone Group was named one of the “Top 40 under 40” by Crains NY. Julia was named principal at Blackstone Group at age 29, becoming the youngest corporate principal at the $22 billion private equity firm. WBL Foundation Associate Sona Mehring, Founder and Executive Director, CaringBridge was honored to have CaringBridge earn its top 4-star rating for the 3rd consecutive year from Charity Navigator. Charity Navigator is the nation’s largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities. CaringBridge earned this rating based on its ability to efficiently manage and grow its finances.

WBL Foundation Associate Janet Wolfe, President and Founder, Wolfe Laboratories, Inc. was named this year’s Eastern regional finalist for the DREAM BIG Small Business of the Year Award by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Wolfe Laboratories was selected from a record number of nationwide applicants based on its critical role in creating jobs in Massachusetts’ biopharmaceutical community, driving economic growth during a challenging recession, and innovative business practices which work towards improving human health.

WBL Foundation Associate Pamela R. Levy has recently retired from Bank of America Merrill Lynch after 17 years with the company. WBL Foundation Associate Dawn Bowden, Ph.D., Former VP of Product Development, CIGNA Health Care, and later Ceridian Corporation, recently completed her PhD and her dissertation was accepted for publishing as a book. The book, Innovation and Integration Capacity: An Investigation of U.S. Health Care Organizations, provides an assessment of how and to what degree health care organizations innovate and integrate to produce change in the U.S. health care system.

WBL Foundation Associate Donna R. Cryer, JD, Chief Executive Officer, CryerHealth recently co-wrote an article with her business partner, Dr. Dennis Cryer, for PharmaVoice Magazine. The article “The New Washington Office” discusses the potential for new roles and responsibilities for Washington-based pharmaceutical company offices and staff. CryerHealth, located in Washington, DC, is a health advocacy and alliance development consultancy.
