We are pleased to announce that, effective January 1, 2010, Eleanor Whitley will be promoted to Executive Director of the WBL Foundation. Eleanor has been with the WBL Foundation for over five years in different capacities. This promotion recognizes her wonderful accomplishments and capabilities.

WBL Foundation Associate Fawn Lopez, Publisher, Modern Healthcare Magazine was honored at the inaugural Asian Health Care Leaders Association Gala Dinner in Chicago on November 16, 2009. The Asian Health Care Leaders Association is a membership and leadership organization devoted to increasing the representation and professional development of Asian-Americans in healthcare executive management, policy, and administration.
Congratulations to the following WBL Foundation Associates who were recognized as Crain’s Most Powerful Women in New York: Pamela Brier, President and Chief Executive Officer, Maimonides Medical Center (#26) and Carol Raphael, President and Chief Executive Officer, Visiting Nurse Service of New York (#45). The list include leaders of multinational companies, entrepreneurs, executives of important industry associations and women in New York politics.
WBL Foundation Associate Laurie Cooke, R.Ph., Chief Executive Officer, Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association was honored as part of the 2009 PharmaVoice 100, an annual review of people who are providing inspiration and are a driving force in the life sciences industry. Laurie also was featured in a recent article in the journal of American Society for Association Executives.
WBL Foundation Associate Tama Duffy Day, Principal and National Interior Design Healthcare Practice Leader, Perkins+Will was recognized as one of 25 of the “Most Influential People in Healthcare Design” of 2009 in Healthcare Design Magazine . The architects, interior designers, academics and researchers that comprise this list were chosen through a nomination and voting period and also reviewed by the Editorial Board at The Center for Health Design.
WBL Foundation Associate Sona Mehring, Founder and Executive Director, CaringBridge was honored to have CaringBridge be the recipient of the Nonprofit Mission Award for Innovation from the Minnesota Council on Nonprofits . CaringBridge provides free websites that connect patients and their family and friends during a serious health event, care and recovery. The Minnesota-based nonprofit was chosen because of its creative applications and nontraditional approaches to solving community challenges, and its collaboration with other nonprofits, businesses and governmental agencies.
WBL Foundation Associate Ryan Phelan, Chief Executive Officer and Founder, DNA Direct, Inc. received the Award for Patient Service from the Institute for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . The IPIT patient-service award honors a person who has made significant contributions to empowering patients and who champions patient focus in the advancement of rational drug therapy.
WBL Foundation Associate Jennifer L. Scully, President and Chief Executive Officer, Clinical Reources, LLC recently won the 2009 Ernst & Young Entrepreneurial Winning Women competition. This annual program is designed to accelerate the growth of high-potential businesses founded by women entrepreneurs. The nine winners will participate in the Ernst & Young Strategic Growth Forum 2009, where more than 1,300 of the nation’s successful entrepreneurs and business leaders share growth strategies and discuss current economic challenges.
WBL Foundation Associate Marjorie Singley-Hall, Chief Executive Officer, Ampersand Associates, Inc. recently won the w2wlink Ascendancy Award for Business Women. Marjorie was selected as an outstanding woman who has “ascended” to achieve and innovate in the Transition to Transformation setting. w2wlink initiated the Ascendancy Awards to recognize, reward and inspire women to maximize their potential in their careers. Marjorie was also one of 100 women internationally to receive the TIAW World of Difference Award. With this award, the International Alliance of Women recognizes women whose efforts have advanced the economic empowerment of women locally, regionally or worldwide.

WBL Foundation Associate Jennie Chin Hansen, BS, MS, President, AARP recently joined the Committee of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing, at the Institute of Medicine. The Institute of Medicine in collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has established a major initiative on the Future of Nursing. This new committee will examine the capacity of the nursing workforce to meet the demands of a reformed health care and public health system. WBL Foundation Associate Glenna M. Crooks, Ph.D., President, Strategic Health Policy International, Inc. has recently been named a Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Neuroscience and Society and a Senior Fellow at the Thomas Jefferson University Jefferson School of Population Health.
WBL Foundation Associate Ayse O. McCracken, Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, The Methodist Hospital Physician Organization, The Methodist Hospital System has been appointed to the National Board of Medical Examiners. The NBME is an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides high-quality examinations for the health professions.
WBL Foundation Associate MarieAnn North, Founder, Posada Consulting Inc. was just appointed to the Board of Directors of the National Center for Genome Resources. The National Center for Genome Resources is a nonprofit life sciences company dedicated to improving human health and nutrition. It is located in Santa Fe, NM.
WBL Foundation Associate and WBL Advisory Board Member Jean Rush, President, Government Services, CIGNA was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence , a non-profit organization dedicated to leading companies in the pursuit of performance excellence, improving results, and contributing to the economic vitality of their region. WBL Foundation Associate and WBL Advisory Board member Linda V. Tiano, Esq. has been named President, Regional Health Plans, Health Net of the Northeast. In this newly created position, Linda will be leading the efforts for the Northeast operations. She was previously Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for Health Net, Inc. Health Net, Inc. is one of the nation’s largest publicly traded managed health care companies.
WBL Foundation Associate Lisa M. Wyatt has been selected as the new Vice President and Chief Communications and Marketing Officer at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center is an academic health system comprised of North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Brenner Children’s Hospital, Wake Forest University Physicians, and Wake Forest University Health Sciences, which operates the university’s School of Medicine and Piedmont Triad Research Park.
